Friday 7 May 2021 Update

I hope you have had a good bank holiday week.  It’s madness really as we tend to cram five days’ work into four. As we slowly move towards indoor dining, green light holiday destinations and a gradual return to offices, we thought it would be useful to share this excellent reminder of the various business support that is available.  Croner (terrible name for a business) provide us with technical support and our fee protection service.  Please do look at the attachment if you still need suppor...

Friday 12 February 2021 Update

Thank Crunchie Its Friday The last two weeks have flown by and I have been jotting down ideas of things to put in my catch-up email.  It seems that there is so much happening in the world of tax and accounting aside from furlough, SEISS, CBILS & BBL’s, Time to pay etc. The Budget With much anticipation we will listen to The Chancellor on 3 March.  Rishi is likely to outline how he intends to repay the biggest borrowing position since WWII. There is much talk in the press about in...

November 2020 Update

We now find ourselves on the eve of lockdown 2.0 and business planning remains virtually impossible. This weekend’s announcement from The Chancellor, post Boris There were two major changes that we need to share: The replacement of the ...

Friday 27 March 2020 Update

Friday 27 March 2020 In Monday’s update (23 March) I mentioned that the Self-employed had been widely overlooked in the business support measures being rolled out during this health and economic crisis. Last night this was addressed by the Chancellor and yet again it leads to questions from clients over whether they qualify for help. My simple interpretation of this is that The Government might as well have said “don’t call us, we’ll call you”. HMRC know who will qualify for this fina...

Employers – Don’t bury you head in the Sand

Ostrich-head-in-sand
Ostriches don't bury their heads in the sand; they wouldn't be able to breathe! But they do dig holes in the dirt to use as nests for their eggs. Several times a day, a bird puts her head in the hole and turns the eggs. So it really does look like the birds are burying their heads in the sand. Instead of this implying that these giant birds are hiding from a threat, they are actually nurturing their future offspring. This month saw the introduction of a new law on workplace pensions....
